We are now looking for Senior Mining Engineer, Environment Manager and two Geologist Trainees for our interesting Sokli project. Read more below.

The mission of Finnish Minerals Group is to responsibly maximise the value of Finnish minerals. We manage the State’s mining industry shareholdings and strive to develop the Finnish value chain of lithium-ion batteries. Through our work, we contribute to Europe moving towards electric transport and a more sustainable future.

Finnish Minerals Group is comprised of the following companies: Finnish Minerals Group (Suomen Malmijalostus Oy), Terrafame Oy, a multi-metal company, Finnish Battery Chemicals Oy, a project company preparing battery value chain investments, and Sokli Oy, a mining project in Savukoski. In addition, Finnish Minerals Group owns 20% of Keliber Oy, 40% of CNGR Finland Oy, 30% of Easpring Finland New Materials Oy and 49% of Adven-FMG Sodium Sulphate Solutions Oy.

Sokli (Savukoski, NE Finland) is a polymetallic deposit which has been studied for over 50 years' time. Sokli carbonatite deposit is potential for many raw materials (for example phosphorus and rare earth elements), which are critical in the transition for climate neutrality.


We are seeking an experienced Senior Mining Engineer to support the development of the Sokli project. The employment is permanent, and the employer is Sokli Oy. The position offers extensive remote work opportunities, but occasionally the tasks require travel, especially to the Sokli mining project area in Savukoski. The mining project area has employer-maintained accommodation facilities, which are freely available to employees.


Key Responsibilities

  • Safety and Environmental Responsibility: Oversee compliance with occupational safety guidelines and promote safe working practices in all situations. Work with the project team and stakeholders to develop safety and sustainability measures in mining operations.
  • Mine Planning and Production Optimization: Lead the design and optimization of mining production processes, ensuring they are safe, responsible, efficient, and considerate of local livelihoods.
  • Feasibility Studies: Ensure that mine planning and implementation meet technical, economic, and environmental feasibility requirements.
  • Project Management: Manage mining planning-related projects, including scheduling, resource management, and budgeting.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with geologists, process engineers, environmental specialists, consultants, authorities, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Report on project progress and ensure that necessary permits and documentation remain up to date.

What We Expect from You

  • Education: A relevant university degree, such as mining or geotechnical engineering
  • Experience: Prior experience in mine planning, production management, or similar roles in the mining industry

  • Technical Expertise: A strong understanding of mining processes and the ability to use industry-standard design software
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Finnish and English

  • Personal qualities: Self-direction, ability to perform under pressure, capacity for independent work and collaboration, and adaptability to working in the conditions of Sokli

We are seeking an Environment Manager to support the development of the Sokli project. The employment is permanent, and the employer is Sokli Oy. The workplace is located in the Sokli mining project area in Savukoski. Remote work is possible to a varying extent, depending on task-related presence requirements, and is estimated to cover approximately half of the total working time. Employer-maintained accommodation facilities are available on-site and freely accessible to employees


Key Responsibilities

  • Safety and Environmental Responsibility: Oversee compliance with safety guidelines and promote safe behavior in all activities. Work with the project team and stakeholders to develop safety and sustainability practices.
  • Environmental Strategy Development and Implementation: Lead the design and execution of the mining environmental strategy to ensure alignment with sustainable development principles.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with authorities, local communities, and other stakeholders to maintain transparent and open communication on environmental matters.
  • Environmental Studies and Assessments: Plan and coordinate environmental studies and monitoring, including water management, biodiversity, and mining waste management. Conduct baseline environmental assessments to serve as a reference for project impact evaluations.
  • Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA): Lead the environmental impact assessment (EIA) process, ensuring that all potential environmental impacts are identified and evaluated during the project planning phase.
  • Environmental Permitting Process: Manage environmental permit applications and ensure that the project complies with all relevant environmental regulations and laws.
  • Environmental Risk Management: Identify environmental and social risks related to the project and develop strategies to manage and minimize them. Develop waste and water management plans to reduce the environmental impact of mining operations.

What We Expect from You

  • Safety and Responsibility: A strong safety, environmental awareness, and responsibility mindset
  • Education: A relevant university degree in environmental engineering, environmental sciences, or a related field
  • Experience: At least five years of experience in environmental management, preferably in the mining or industrial sector. Ability to understand the different phases of a mining project lifecycle and their environmental impacts
  • Innovative Mindset: Willingness to challenge traditional approaches and develop new environmentally sustainable solutions that align with future regulatory and efficiency standards
  • Regulatory Knowledge: A deep understanding of environmental legislation and regulations, including experience in permitting processes
  • Analytical Skills: The ability to analyse environmental data and make informed decisions on project implementation options
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Finnish and English. Ability to communicate complex environmental issues clearly to different stakeholders
  • Leadership Skills: Experience in leading project teams and managing environmental projects
  • Personal qualities: Self-direction, ability to perform under pressure, capacity for independent work and collaboration, and adaptability to working in the conditions of Sokli

We are looking for two ambitious Geologist Trainees for the Sokli project to join our team. The working period is four months long and it will be carried out in Savukoski during May-September 2025. You will report to Sokli Oy’s Chief Geologist and you will be employed by Sokli Oy.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Drill core logging and sampling
  • Field studies and sampling
  • Tasks related to the archiving, documentation, and material management of the Sokli project
  • Assisting during drilling projects
  • Other tasks assigned by Sokli Oy

Candidate profile

  • You promote and demonstrate safe behavior in all situations
  • You maintain a professional work environment and encourage team members to develop their skills
  • A few years of geology studies and previous experience in field work
  • Co-operation skills and ability to work with a variety of stakeholders
  • Willingness to take responsibility as well as the ability to learn and apply new matters quickly
  • Willingness to work independently and safely, diligence and orderliness
  • Fluency both in Finnish and English
  • Travel readiness in Finland in the Savukoski and Espoo areas
  • At least a class B driving license
  • Skills in Microsoft Office programs

What is considered an advantage
