Finnish Battery Chemicals Oy, a project company owned by the Finnish Minerals Group, has received a reasoned conclusion on the environmental impacts of the battery cell plant from the coordinating authority, the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment for Southeast Finland (ELY Centre).

According to the reasoned conclusion, the EIA report meets the content requirements and is of sufficient quality. The conclusion states, that the environmental impacts of the implementing option examined in the EIA report have been clearly presented.

Finnish Battery Chemicals Oy submitted the EIA report to the authority on 30 September 2024, and it was presented at a public event on 30 October 2024. The coordinating authority organised a public hearing on the report and gathered all the opinions and relevant statements.

In the EIA report, the company proposed one implementing option for the cell production plant. In this option VE1, the possibility of establishing a cell plant with an annual production capacity of 60 GWh in Kotka, Finland was examined. The planned capacity meets the needs of approximately one million fully electric cars annually. The second option was not to build the plant at all.

The conclusion is on the ELY Centre’s website at www.ymparisto.fi.
